KARE power station, Munich

The former gas test power station in Munich was converted into the international flagship store of KARE Design from 2013-2017. It was important to the new users to maintain the industrial character of the building. This was especially true for the visible old steel construction extending from the 5th to the 10th floor. This as well as the extension to the 11th floor, which was completed in 2016, was protected with an insulating fire protection coating by Hensel.

As it was not yet clearly defined at the beginning of the construction work which fire protection class the steel construction had to meet in the different areas of the building, the decision was made to use the water-based fire protection coating HENSOTHERM® 420 KS. This meant that it was already possible to start coating work on F/R 30 and areas that required a higher fire resistance duration could be recoated to F/R 90 without any problems.
