Rudolf Hensel GmbH | Lack- und Farbenfabrik

Founded in 1922 as a paint and varnish factory, the company recognized the increasing importance of preventive structural fire protection in the early 1950s and devoted itself intensively to the development of fire protection coatings. Already in 1953 this commitment was honoured with the first patents.

The insulation-forming HENSOTHERM® steel fire protection coating systems are approved in accordance with DIN EN 13501-2 and have other international certificates, such as BS 476, VKF, UL 263 and GOST. They offer almost unlimited possibilities for leaving filigree and diverse steel components visible as an architectural element and simultaneously meeting the requirements of passive structural fire protection.

Our development work focusses on the environmental compatibility and sustainability of the water-based and maintenance-free steel fire protection systems in our Green Product Line. They fulfil the requirements of LEED or LEED v4, are AgBB-tested, classified in VOC emission class A+, have an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) Type III and are registered in the DGNB Navigator.

Rudolf Hensel GmbH is the first manufacturer of fire protection coatings to successfully demonstrate in the European assessment procedure (ETA) that products have a durability and thus a service life of more than 25 years in dry interior areas (Z2). The steel fire protection coatings HENSOTHERM® 410 KS, HENSOTHERM® 421 KS and HENSOTHERM® 920 KS are the first 1K and 2K fire protection systems, with and without topcoat, that can therefore be used for more than 25 years in accordance with the current ETA and aBG, provided they are used correctly in accordance with our manufacturer’s specifications.

Furthermore, HENSOTHERM® 421 KS is the only steel fire protection system on the market that can be used with an aBG on tension-loaded components and in trusses.

Our broad product range offers intumescent and ablative fire protection coating systems for steel, wood, concrete and cables, as well as for the production of penetration seals and fire-resistant joints.

Over 100 years of creativity, high quality standards and intensive interaction with its customers have made Rudolf Hensel GmbH one of the leading manufacturers of fire protection systems for passive structural fire protection made in Germany.
