What layer thickness is required to achieve the required fire resistance duration?

The required layer thickness depends on several factors. These include, among others:

  • the section factor (U/A factor),
  • the type of profile (closed/open),
  • the exact fire scenario (cellulosic fire, hydrocarbon pool fire, hydrocarbon jet fire, etc.),
  • the desired fire resistance duration,
  • the product used (manufacturer-dependent and regulated by approval),
  • the required standard (DIN, EN),
  • the rated temperature (EN).

It is always important to pay attention to the applications covered by the approval or fire test on which it is based. In the case of different applications, separate test certificates may have to be used as a basis.
